Captain Goodner oversees the Patrol Operations Division that includes:
Captain Goodner was born in Fort Pierce and graduated from Fort Pierce Central High School. He completed the Florida Basic Recruit Law Enforcement Officer Academy and his Associate of Science Degree in Criminal Justice Technology from Indian River State College.
In September of 1992, he was hired by the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office as an Auxiliary Deputy and then as a full-time Deputy in April of 1993.

Awards & Recognition
For more than 20 years, he has been a certified adjunct driving instructor and has been part of the agency’s firearms training cadre. During his career, Captain Goodner has earned numerous awards and commendations within the Sheriff's Office.
For many years, Captain Goodner has served as the team commander for the Crisis Negotiation Team. He has become a statewide leader among crisis negotiators, completing his first of two terms as the President of the Florida Association of Hostage Negotiators. Captain Goodner is a board member of SafeSpace, a non-profit, United Way organization serving victims of domestic abuse.
