Today, we mourn the loss of St. Lucie County Deputy Sheriff Alan Ross

St. Lucie County Sheriff's Detention Deputy Alan Ross, 50, of Port St. Lucie lost his life in a single-car crash on I-95 Thursday evening as he drove to work, according to Sheriff Ken J. Mascara.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash that took place shortly after 6:20 p.m. in the northbound lane of I-95 at the 130 mile marker, Sheriff Mascara said. The 130 mile marker is one mile north of State Road 70 (Okeechobee Road) and one mile south of State Road 68 (Orange Avenue) in St. Lucie County.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the Ross family and our Sheriff's Office family during this tragic loss," Sheriff Mascara said. "I want to express my deepest sympathies to his wife," Sheriff Mascara said. "Sadly, we have lost another member of our Sheriff's Office family. Deputy Ross was in uniform in his personal car on the way to the St. Lucie County jail to work his shift Thursday night."
